Text in red indicates amendments/additions for 2010.
Objective
Each person who would like to participate will need to fill out the predictions championship form on this forum prior to the upcoming Grand Prix.
On this form you will be asked to predict which teammate you think will qualify fastest for each of the 13 teams. You will also be asked to predict the first race retirement, top 10 in the race and the fastest lap.
Points will be scored according to how accurately you guess the results of the race weekend. The person who obtains the highest score for a race weekend will be the grand prix winner and will appear on the grand prix winners list. Ties for victory will be broken by determining who has the closest guess to the fastest lap for that race.
The points that you score after each race are converted into Championship points which will count towards the tally for each person (see explanation below). The person with the most Championship points from all 19 grands prix will finish top of the standings and will be crowned the world champion. Below are the full rules for the 2010 championship...
Scoring - Qualifying
Correctly predicting which of a team's two drivers will set the fastest lap = 5 points.
Points will be scored based on the position which the FIA originally classes the drivers finish in qualifying; any subsequent disqualifications or alterations will not affect these results (i.e. gearbox change penalties etc.).
Scoring - Race
Correctly predicting a driver's finishing position = 25 points
If you predict a driver to finish in the top 10 you do not need to successfully predict the correct finishing position, you can still score points by predicting as follows...
One place out = 18 points
Two places out = 15 points
Three places out = 12 points
Four places out = 10 points
Five places out = 8 points
Six places out = 6 points
Seven places out = 4 points
Eight places out = 2 points
Nine places out = 1 points
Correctly predicting first race retirement = 25 points
Closest guess to fastest race lap = 5 points
The scores will then be added up and people will be awarded Championship points as follows:
1st: 25 Championship points
2nd: 18 Championship points
3rd: 15 Championship points
4th: 12 Championship points
5th: 10 Championship points
6th: 8 Championship points
7th: 6 Championship points
8th: 4 Championship points
9th: 2 Championship points
10th: 1 Championship point
11th and below: 0 Championship points.
The person with the most Championship points at the end of the season will be the ninth Predictions World Champion!
In the event of a tie
If there is a tie at a particular race, then the victory will be awarded to the person involved in the tie who has the closest guess to the fastest lap for that race.
Ties for other points-scoring positions will be broken using the same method.
If the World Championship is tied at the end of the season, then the winner will be decided on countback i.e. number of 1sts, 2nds, 3rds etc. until there is a winner. If this proves inconclusive, as the FIA would say, I'll use a method that I see fit!
How to enter
Soon after the previous grand prix has finished, except for the opening race which will be posted three weeks before the race, a thread will appear on the Predictions sub-forum called '2010' followed by the name of the Grand Prix that the predictions will count for.
Each player must reply to the relevant thread any time between when it appears and 23:59:59 on the Thursday (UK time) before the race. This deadline is 23:59:59 on the Wednesday before the Monaco Grand Prix - as practice takes place on Thursday for that race.
Each player is allowed to make as many attempts at predicting as they want, by editing their post to show the new predictions. All revisions must be made before the deadline; if anyone edits a post after the deadline then neither the original version or the edited version of the predictions will count for that race.
You do not have to post again if you are happy with your previous predictions, as they will be carried over from race to race. If you just want to change, for example, your fastest lap but want to keep the rest the same, simply post the new fastest lap.
Notes
1. It is not compulsory to enter every round of the championship (but it helps!).
2. If you have entered a previous round in 2010 but then do not post any predictions for the next race, your last predictions will be carried over i.e. you make predictions for Bahrain but don't post any for Australia your previous predictions will be taken.
3. A driver cannot be named more than once in your top 10 and first retirement predictions. If this happens then only the first mention on the form will be counted.
4. Players are only allowed to enter their own predictions and are not allowed to enter predictions on behalf of other members unless the managers are notified beforehand.
5. We are looking for the driver that qualifies fastest - this does not take into account any subsequent drop in grid positions imposed due to an engine change.
6. The driver who covers the least distance in the race (excluding any drivers who did not start) and is listed as a retirement on the FIA's race classification will be taken to be the first retirement. If no drivers retire from the race according to the classification, no driver will be taken to be the first retirement.
7. Points will be scored based on the position which the FIA originally classes the drivers finish in qualifying and the race; any subsequent disqualifications or alterations will not affect these results.
8. A driver who fails to qualify or who is not on the grid immediately prior to the parade lap will not count as first retirement for the race.
9. If you put a driver in your predictions and he is then replaced between the time of posting and the race, then you will score points based upon the replacement driver.
10. Team championship points will be based on the average score of all of the members of that team.
11. Late entries will not be accepted under any circumstances - it is up to you to post on time, as in many cases you have at least a week and usually more to post! The decision of the predictions manager will be final.
12. Finally, please remember not to take it too seriously!
