Jacques says that he is going to buy the HRT team and drive one of its cars next year. See lazily pasted story below.
Does anyone really think that Jacques can still cut it? Personally, I think he showed pretty clearly the last time he got to drive in F1 (Sauber, was it?) that he could not cut it. Now he is even older and even further removed from the sport.
Also given that his rival in his championship year, Michael Schumacher has returned to the sport and is currently driving like Tarso Marques chauffeuring Princess Diana through Paris full of booze and carbon monoxide, one would imagine Jacques would have more sense. Then again, maybe he thinks that he will be good because the cars are on slick tyres again, as they were when he had his best 2 years ('96 and '97).
I rather like that someone on Planet F1 commented that Jacques should learn from what Craig Pollock did and make the exact opposite decisions to everything that Craig did back in the BAR days.
Anyway, here's the thread:
Durango and Jacques Villeneuve are set to push ahead with their plans of purchasing a F1 team with Hispania Racing reportedly their target.
Earlier this month, Durango, who teamed up with Villeneuve to bid for a place on next year's grid, were informed that the FIA would not be awarding the 13th place to a new team.
However, neither party has given up on their Formula One dream with Durango admitting they are now looking to purchase one of the existing teams.
"The only way to be in F1 in 2011 is to buy an existing team," Durango's Giuseppe Dorigo told Radio Canada Sports.
"As planned we will do this together with Jacques Villeneuve. We believe that it is worth it. Our only goal is to be here next year."
Meanwhile, rumours claim that Hispania Racing, one of this year's new entrants, who are believed to be having financial problems, is the most likely target for Villeneuve and Durango.
